On April 3, 2006 at about 3:13 p.m. in Surrey, B.C. Two tenants of BON TERRA Apartments, located at 10754 150, adjacent from Holly Elementary School, were involved in altercation. A fight broke out in the park located behind the school. One of the males fled the scene quickly. As the other male returned towards the apartment building, he entered the parking lot, only to be the target of gunfire. A vehicle in the parking lot associated to that man returned fire. Witnesses stated there was at least 8 to 10 shots fired.
Shawn Thomas Kidd, who appeared to be without a weapon was caught in the cross-fire. Shawn Kidd, a 26 year old, Surrey resident was shot 5 times. An ambulance arrived on scene, and rushed the male to hospital but was pronounced dead before arrival.
It was thought that the other suspect involved in altercation was going to be convicted of second degree murder. The Surrey RCMP conducted an investigation, it was revealed at trial that in fact Shawn Thomas Kidd wasn't murdered by the shots fired by the other man being charged, but how ever the cause of death was inflicted by a shot fired by victim's acquaintance, inside the confusion the vehicle's passenger accidentally shot the victim through the chest.
Just goes to show that society in our quaint communities are getting out of control.
